Short Note about Cinch Diet Plan

Cinch Diet Plan gets Results if You Follow Advice

When I finally moved my cattle down to their next pasture - and farther away from the house - I realized that the pounds I regained in the last couple of weeks were due to dropping the mile and 1/3rd which I was walking cross-country every day in checking on them.

For I had my "patient patient" up at the house by now, and so the herd was also there - giving me only a few hundred feet of walking daily, if that.

So, since the calorie intake was not reduced along with the calorie "burning", extra weight was restored. (Wondered why I wasn't hungry at night.) And that's the advice with this Shaklee weight loss program which I didn't heed.

The rule then becomes - sleep when you're tired, drink when you're thirsty, and eat only when you are hungry: but only enough to satisfy, not to satiate. (Pleasantly full, not stuffed.)

Cinch-men-diet-plan-loss-weight_20
And do get some substitute activity if you find yourself temporarily at odd ends.

(Needless to say, I did about 2 miles to check my other pastures, where I could find elderberries this year, and how a remote patch of blackberries was doing...)

One month more of this - and we'll see how it progresses.

Week 6 - Cinch Diet Plan - Missing 20 pounds!

Progress: 20 lbs. lost in 6 weeks - Cinch Diet Plan

Cinch Inch Loss Diet Plan Works!Started this Cinch Inch Loss Diet at 244lbs. Today: 224lbs. Almost 40% through the diet plan (4 months or 16 weeks).

And went down a waist size (at least.) Starting to see the 6-pack under that surface fat showing up. (Always knew they were there, just well insulated...)

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'd shifted into a different diet and work activities. But dropping 8 pounds in a week is something new. (232lbs. last week.)

Again, what I did was to lower my calorie intake and boost my calorie burn rate. Less food, more exercise. And I still have plenty of energy for everything I want to do. Quite a bit of a difference. This seems to give me anecdotal support to the idea that all the fat you are carrying around is really just slowing down your metabolism. So the more fat you burn off, the easier it is to burn off more fat. (And so the easier it is to keep it off.)

And it meant I became familiar with what hungry was. Not ravenous, just knowing that I could eat - but didn't have to. I touched on this concept slightly in that last post, but could say more in this area.

To my mind, a person has to be in touch with their body enough to know what thirst, hunger, and tiredness really are. And solve each according to its needs, not substituting something else. I've heard before that people eat when they are actually thirsty. And people toss back stimulating energy drinks when they are tired. You are really just putting extra calories away which will more likely turned into fat - which again slows you down.

My ideas at this point:

  • When you're thirsty, drink water.
  • Be hungry before every meal. If you aren't hungry, don't eat. Eat just enough to satisfy your hunger: don't overeat to feeling "stuffed".
  • When you're tired, either sleep or nap. Get up when you are rested or refreshed.

Of course, this can play hob with any schedule. (It helps that I freelance and farm the rest of the day. I am my own boss.)

This is exactly why I took on the Cinch Transformation Challenge. I'll be seeing exactly what 4 months of this diet can do for a person. Since I blog, I'll keep this whole scene (mostly) going as a blow-by-blow. Or hope to, at any rate.

I wanted to see if this stuff worked. It didn't hurt that I can always send back the empty boxes and get a full refund - no questions asked. So there was literally nothing to lose. Plus I got in on the special offer of the last month free - so it's a discount you can't pass up.

Again, what I changed this last week was the above. Especially in the afternoon and evening, if I wasn't hungry, I put off eating. Instead of eating the full meal bar, I'd eat half and save the remainder until later or the next day. Your snack bars are basically half of a meal bar. And different flavors. So that's another option. Oh, and the fruit I was eating in the evening was oranges. (Banana's have a higher fat content.)  This fills the need for "food" toward the evening - and the general rule is to eat essentially nothing after dinner. A low calorie fruit fits here. (I imagine celery would be another great option.)

My meals now are these:

  • Breakfast is a Cinch Shake with a banana. (Occasionally, I throw in some cinnamon or use a different shake flavor - can't wait until our garden-fresh strawberries come in later this summer - and our peaches...)
  • Mid morning snack (after farm chores) is my (big) mug of coffee with honey. And a peanut butter/jelly half-sandwich on whole wheat.
  • Lunch is whatever, but I just watch the portions and keep it heavy on vegetables and lighter on meat portions.
  • Afternoon is a tall iced glass of tea (kinda dilutes the Cinch Tea, but the flavor still comes through, as well as the energy it gives.) When I feel like it (about 3 hours or so later), I'll have a Cinch snack bar.
  • Dinner is depending on how much I want to eat. It's becoming more of a half Cinch meal bar - or even none, if that snack bar was late enough in the day. (Eat only when you're hungry, remember?)
  • Anything after dinner time (or within 3 hours before sleeping) is fruit - oranges.

And we'll see how this goes next week. I see my energy staying higher than before and I'm more interested in taking on various projects now which I was putting off due to lack of energy before. (I'm even considering tidying up and organizing the barn, it's gotten that extreme...) I'm not expecting to keep dropping 8 pounds a week - I figure that it's going to plateau at some level where my input and output match. Target right now is to get under 200lbs (I graduated high school at 185, mostly muscle, so that would be a good level to regain.)

Just hoping your diet is going as smoothly. Cheers!

Weight Loss Supplements and Shakes

Cinch Inch Weight Loss Shakes, Smoothies, and Supplements

As you've been following these articles, we've covered that all diet plans have to deal with reducing calorie input, while increasing calorie burn-rate, meanwhile providing enough nourishment as well as mental re-training and social support. If any of these are missing or skimped, the program fails.

Another aspect came in, based on research into sports nutrition. It was found that a destructive "yo-yo effect" was produced by most diets. When calorie intake is lowered, the body invokes a "famine response", by burning muscle fiber and water first. And then, when the diet is ended, a "feast response" occurs, where extra calories are stored in the fat against the next shortage. The net result is that you lose muscle mass, which is actually needed to keep metabolism high. Low metabolism makes you feel out of sorts and tired. And a frequent reason to quit a diet - because you "feel lousy."

The Cinch Inch Loss Plan is different. It addresses one of the primary reasons why other diets fail. Cinch provides you a plan to lose the right way. Instead of helping you lose weight from fat and muscle, the Cinch Inch Loss Plan is Powered by LeucineTM to help preserve muscle while you lose weight from fat. Preserving muscle mass also prevents your metabolism from dropping. The Cinch Inch Loss Plan with leucine is scientifically formulated to help you lose weight, lose inches, and break the cycle of perpetual dieting.

The Cinch Inch Loss Plan is designed for real life, so it also addresses the physical and emotional challenges that come along with your weight control efforts. With proprietary formulas, the Cinch products will help you control your hunger, boost your energy, and keep you feeling satisfied. Plus, you'll get healthy personalized menus specific to your body's needs and your individual preferences.

But these bars don't just taste great. They're 120 to 130 calories, and yet provide you with a full 10 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, and are low on the glycemic index. They're good for you and really keep you satisfied. Plus, each bar is Powered by LeucineTM to help you hold on to muscle.

Also included, Cinch3-in-1 BoostTM is a multipurpose supplement containing 23 essential vitamins and minerals and features a proprietary thermogenic blend of botanical ingredients, including EGCG, an ingredient from green tea that helps boost your metabolism. Also included are chromium, vanadium, and banaba leaf extract in the formulation to help you retain normal blood sugar levels. Together they provide you with 100% or more of the Daily Value for 19 essential vitamins and minerals.

The final step in the CinchPlan is CinchEnergy Tea, a unique blend of tea that offers a natural alternative to sugar laden snack foods or high calorie coffee drinks. CinchEnergy Tea contains a unique proprietary triple tea blend that includes rooibos red tea, white tea and green tea extracts including Matcha green tea powder, a special green tea traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies. Also added is the amino acid taurine, which has been studied for its role in physical and mental performance and for promoting a general sense of well being. CinchEnergy Tea, available in original Unsweetened and juicy, lightly sweetened Pomegranate flavors, is an good way to chase away those mid-morning or mid-afternoon low energy blahs. You can either drink it hot or over ice for a natural energy lift.

The CinchInch Loss plan provides an optimal balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat to help control hunger, promote satiety and feelings of fullness.

When you incorporate all the delicious Cinchproducts, along with the healthy meal plan included as part of the Plan, and add regular physical activity to the mix, you absolutely will lose inches and fat as demonstrated by our preliminary clinical trial.

And this is especially important when you consider losing fat, especially around the waist, reduces that waist to hip ratio, which in turn, reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Our preliminary study results showed that participants on the CinchPlan were able to keep muscle, burn fat, lose inches, and improve their health at the same time.

In our next article, we'll bring you more information on Obesity and the epidemic it's become in just two decades. Of course, that's the real reason we are taking up this subject - to help you make an informed decision about your diet, so you can reach and maintain a healthy weight.

1 Pilot study showed participants retained 100% of lean muscle mass while losing an average of:

  •  16.3 pounds of fat

  •  4.1 inches from their waists

  •  2.6 inches from their hips

More than 90% of participants in a study reported having "very good" energy levels

Advice - Weight Loss Centers

Weight Loss Centers: Advice on Weight Maintenance

Many people set up their own local weight loss centers in order to help their friends and family with their Cinch Inch-Loss Plan. There are no particular rules regarding your center. You don't even have to own or rent a building. Any space you can meet and talk freely on a regular basis can be used.

The point is that you meet and discuss things regularly. The leader can even sent out text messages on a regular basis to keep everyone inspired during the week. Calls and emails to each other are encouraged.

What follows was originally written for Canadian Cinch Users and has been borrowed for our American friends and associates.

A CINCH® WEIGHT MAINTENANCE PLAN

Once you’ve reached your weight loss goal with the Cinch® Inch-Loss Plan, it’s time to make the transition to weight maintenance and wellness. Here are some easy steps to follow:

1. Re-evaluate your daily calorie needs for weight maintenance.
Use the CinchCoach™ software that came in the Cinch® Starter Kit or the “free analysis” tool available at CinchPlan.com to calculate your new calorie needs for the weight you intend to maintain.

2. Use the structured meal plans for weight maintenance found in CinchCoach™ or at CinchPlan.com/.
Choose the meal plan closest to your estimated calorie needs. The maintenance meal plans incorporate one Cinch® Shake (or one Cinch® Meal-in-a-Bar) and one Cinch® Snack Bar daily and other healthy food choices as meals and snacks to meet your calorie needs. You can also continue to use Cinch® Energy Tea Mix as desired. Follow your maintenance meal plan as closely as possible until you have a good sense of the amount of food and proper portion control that will promote a stable weight for you.

3. Continue to monitor your weight weekly.
If you find you’re still losing weight, boost your caloric intake just a bit – but do so slowly (add 100 calories a day for a week, then re-weigh) – until you find the right calorie level for maintenance. If you find you’ve gained weight, you may have overestimated your calorie needs. In this case, we recommend you either boost your physical activity or cut back your calorie intake slowly (subtract 100 calories a day for a week, then re-weigh) until you find the calorie intake that keeps your weight stable.

4. Switch to other Shaklee supplements.
Although we highly recommend you continue using Cinch® Shake Mix (or Cinch® Meal-in-a-Bar) as a healthy meal replacement, and Cinch® Snack Bars as desired as a healthy snack, your basic supplementation program can now switch from the use of Cinch® 3-in-1 Boost™ to a combination of other Shaklee wellness products.

To promote lifelong health and vitality, replace 3-in-1 Boost with Shaklee Vitalizer™ (with or without iron) and add Shaklee OmegaGuard® and NutriFeron® into your daily routine. Heart and immune function health are critical to overall wellness. OmegaGuard is your source of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil and helps reduce the risk of heart disease. The botanical blend in NutriFeron stimulates the body’s natural production of interferon, a key component of your immune system.

5. Don’t forget to stay active.
Engaging in regular, daily physical activity is essential for long-term weight maintenance success, so we highly encourage you to continue with regular exercise as part of your normal daily routine. Continue to wear your Cinch® pedometer and be aware of how many steps a day you need to maintain your weight.

6. Visit CinchClub.com from time to time.
There are some great articles in the resource section that can be helpful in many aspects of successful weight maintenance. With determination and a positive mental attitude, you’ll maintain the weight you worked so hard to achieve.   We know you CAN do it!

Weight Loss Men's Programs

Weight Loss Programs for Men - Not Your Girl's Diets

This isn't what your wife or girlfriend is doing. Let's get real here. Looking at bikini babes is one thing. But men over 40 know that it's not just about a rippling 6-pack and bulging biceps. What works for gals isn't what necessarily works for guys. And if you've had a career in construction or worked out a lot, that BMI index isn't necessarily accurate. Someone who was built like a tank in his early years isn't the same as a career desk jockey or a computer geek. Reality check.

What we have in common is that our energy isn't what it used to be and we want to be around to enjoy teaching our grandchildren to play catch, ride bikes, and do all the things we did as kids (well, the sensible ones, anyway - not the dangerous ones.)

Obesity in America these days has become an epidemic. Now around two-thirds of the country is overweight or obese. And we can see it in our love handles and our larger waist sizes. As well, this just leads to heart and diabetes problems if we ignore it. Plus other things.

Men don't have the same problems women do in losing weight. Pound for pound, it's faster for men to take it off than women. And the diet portions for  women aren't what a man needs to keep going. Plus, the real trick is in keeping it off. So when you look into a diet plan, you want to see what the follow-up is.

In any diet, you have 5 factors:

  • Calories In: You're going to have to change what you eat, that's obvious.

  • Calories Burned: Means getting some more exercise into your schedule. Real exercise.

  • A Decent Diet: The food you get has to be enough to keep you going, and not hungry during the day.

  • Mind Frame: How you got here has a lot to do with your thinking. You're going to need to learn about what you eat and be responsible. Like learning how to drive a truck and keep it on the road in any weather. Really.

  • The Club: You have to know there's buddies you can count on to help keep you on this wagon - now and later when you've got back to the shape you want.

What makes dieting tough

There's a concept known as Yo-Yo dieting. A guy gets on a diet, does it, loses weight, then gains it all back. Some celebrities like Rush Limbaugh have gone this route. The problem is that this isn't good for you. What you do on a diet is to change things temporarily, but this causes muscle damage that can be permanent.

Look, most diets out there deal simply with the fact that you have to eat less and exercise more. You count calories (or have someone do it for you) and that's pretty much it. Sure, there's fancy approaches to this - but they almost all boil down to the same few points.

The muscle problem is that the body goes through this famine-feast cycle. In a famine, the body looks for material it can burn while saving its reserves for later. Muscle is the usual suspect in this. The problem with this is that your muscles is where your metabolism comes from.

This is exactly why diets get a bad name. Most of them leave you hungry - and tired. You feel bad because you feel like you're starving and that's a bad thing. You don't have the energy you did when you started, so you break down and get something to give you some pep. And there goes the diet. When you go off the diet, you start feasting - and the body stores all the excess away in your fat against the next time you need it.

If you don't watch it, you can end up all gut and no muscle. Plus you have no energy and feel bad most of the time. So you keep putting on fat as you are moving around less. The trick is to keep your muscles in good shape as you get older.

A diet called the Cinch Inch Loss Plan is different. Mainly because the emphasis isn't just on weight. Also, their scientists (from Shaklee) worked with professional and Olympic athletes in sports nutrition. It was found that Leucine - a key amino acid which forms protein - was what sports nutritionists used to preserve lean muscle mass in work-out diets. And the research I've done shows no other mainstream diet has this. Check them out for yourself.

They've set up some supplements that are simple to use and keep you filled up all day. Just two shakes a day, plus snack bars and drinks which help you keep your energy up all day while you burn off the fat. This is why they emphasize tracking your inches, not just your pounds.

Like any sport - it's the carry-through.

You see this in golf or football all the time. A guy has to keep his eye on the ball, even after it arrives.

Same with weight loss diets. Any diet can be made to fail if you don't follow through. It's just common sense - look, it's easiest to do this as part of a team. Guys with similar goals in mind who will watch your back and keep you on the straight and narrow.

This is where Shaklee's Cinch Inch-loss Diet shines. They have a couple of sites, one paid (cinchwellness.com) and one free (cinchclub.com) so you can get your head around what you need to do to lose weight and how you keep it off as well. And there's articles about how to do it and people you can team up with while you're dieting and aftewards. When you get started on Cinch, the first 3 months of Cinchwellness are free. (The point of charging is so they don't have to run ads and the spammers can't get in.)

But let's face one point here - you are changing your life for the better and you won't be going back. From here on out, especially after you've gotten down to the shape you want, you're going to be keeping an eye on your weight and your calorie count. One great thing about Cinch is that you can simply cut back to a single serving per day (which is convenient, since it's a fast meal to produce). And you're going to keep your exercise in.

Sure, as teen-agers, we had it made. But since middle age, we have to work a bit at this. It's just a responsible thing we need to do for the other people in our lives. You're just going to have to shift your mental gears to get this done. But that's the way it is.

If you want to feel better and younger, you're going to have to change what you're doing. But only slightly. You can still enjoy your steaks. But know you are going to work that extra fat off while you keep the protein.

PS. You can also make some extra income at this - but that's another story for another time.

Protein Diet Plan for Weight Loss

Healthy Diet Protein Plan - Cinch Inch Loss Program

CINCH FAQs

Questions About Cinch® Inch Loss Plan

Q. Do I need to follow the calorie level recommended on the plan grid?
A. Yes. For a slow and safe rate of weight loss, it’s best to start with the recommended calorie level in your Program Guide. Ideally you should lose weight at a rate of 1–2 lbs per week. However, if you’ve been following the plan as directed for two weeks and have not lost any weight, step down one calorie level. Try this level for another week. If you are still not losing weight, continue the step-down process. We also recommend that you not reduce your calorie level below 1,200 a day. If you find you are not losing weight on 1,200 calories a day, the best option for you is to boost your level of physical activity.

Q. I am breast-feeding. Can I still follow the Cinch Inch Loss Plan?
A. Breast-feeding is a great way to burn extra calories. It will naturally help you begin to lose the weight you gained during pregnancy. However, you can follow a modified version of the Cinch Inch Loss Plan while nursing your baby. Just remember to make sure you’re eating enough and drinking plenty of fluids so your breast milk production isn’t compromised. Start by reducing your calories modestly (selecting the 1,800 calorie level may be the best place to start). We recommend that you discuss the use of the Energy Tea Mix with your physician as it contains naturally occurring caffeine from green tea. You should replace the 3-in-1 Boost with Vita-Lea with Iron formula. The 3-in-1 Boost contains evodia, an herbal extract for which the safe use in nursing women has not been studied. Also, if at any time you notice any decrease in your breast milk production, you may want to double-check your calorie and fluid intake or possibly discontinue the program until you’ve finished nursing your baby.

Q. Can people with prediabetes or diabetes use the Cinch Inch Loss Plan?
A. Yes, this program is suitable for people with prediabetes and diabetes. In fact, modest weight loss in people with prediabetes may prevent this condition from converting to diabetes. And for people already with diabetes, weight loss may significantly improve blood-sugar control and prevent serious complications associated with the disease.
For people with diabetes who take oral medications or use insulin, weight loss as a result of the Cinch Inch Loss Plan may reduce the required dosage and/or the need for these medications. Therefore, we recommend these individuals closely monitor their blood-sugar levels and work with their personal health care provider to adjust their medication as necessary.

Q. Can children use the Cinch Inch Loss Plan?
A. This program is not designed for children under the age of 12. However, for overweight teenagers (ages 13 to 17), a modified version of the plan can be used. We suggest using one serving per day of the Cinch Shake Mix as a healthy meal replacement and a second serving of shake or a Cinch Bar as a healthy afternoon snack. Additionally, we recommend replacing the Cinch 3-in-1 Boost with Vita-Lea with Iron and limiting your child’s intake of the Cinch Energy Tea Mix due to the presence of naturally occurring caffeine. We recommend you consult with your child’s physician before beginning the program. For overweight or obese children under the age of 13, the Cinch products and support materials can be used, but only under the supervision of the child’s physician. Additionally, discussion of healthy eating choices, encouragement of increased activity and less time watching television or playing computer games, and the elimination of fast foods and “junk foods” are all very important.

Q. What is the science behind the way this plan works?
A. Shaklee scientists have relied on their long history of working with athletes to gain a scientific insight as to what works for safe and effective weight loss. Instead of creating weight loss from water and muscle like with most diet programs, the Cinch Inch Loss Plan works by helping to preserve lean body mass and promoting weight loss from fat.* Preserving lean body mass also prevents your metabolic rate, or ability to burn calories, from dropping. The Cinch Inch Loss Plan provides products powered by the essential amino acid leucine. Recent scientific research indicates that leucine may play a special role in weight loss because it acts as a signal for protein synthesis in muscle tissue. As a result, leucine helps your body preserve muscle mass while you lose weight from fat. The Cinch program has undergone preliminary clinical testing that indicated positive results for weight loss, fat loss, inch loss, and preservation of fat-free mass.
*Based on the results of a preliminary clinical study and skin fold caliper measurements to estimate lean body mass and fat mass.

Q. Can I continue to take Vita-Lea? What about other Shaklee supplements?
A. When you combine two servings a day of the Cinch Shake, plus the 3-in-1 Boost, you’re supplying your body with more than 100% of the Daily Value of essential vitamins and minerals. Therefore, it is not necessary to take Vita-Lea or Vita-Lea Gold while following the Cinch Inch Loss Plan. The use of other Shaklee supplements (OmegaGuard or Garlic Complex, for example) and herbal products (NutriFeron or Joint Health Complex*) may be continued. However, we recommend that you discontinue taking Glucose Regulation Complex* (GRC) because we include all these ingredients in the 3-in-1 Boost.

Question About Cinch 3-in-1 Boost

Q. Can I take all three Cinch 3-in-1 Boost tablets at the same time?
A. For best results, we recommend you take one supplement three times daily. One with each shake or prepared meal works best.

Questions About Cinch Shakes and Bars

Q. Do all the Cinch Snack Bars contain peanuts?
A. All three flavors of the Cinch Snack Bars are manufactured in a facility that processes foods containing peanuts. It is possible that traces of peanuts, or tree nuts, could be in all three flavors. Therefore, if you are allergic to peanuts or tree nuts, you should not use Cinch Snack Bars.

Q. What can I substitute for Cinch Snack Bars?
A. We strongly suggest the Cinch Snack Bar as your snack. With 120–130 calories, each bar provides 10 grams of protein and three grams of fiber. It’s a great way to add protein to your daily diet and get extra leucine to help preserve lean muscle. If you can’t eat the bar, here are some alternatives:

• 1 cup nonfat yogurt
• 1/2 cup of nonfat cottage cheese with 1 cup raw vegetables
• 1 oz. low-fat cheese with five small whole wheat crackers

Q. Can I mix my Cinch Shake with water?
A. We recommend nonfat milk or low-fat soy milk for the best nutritional profile and to provide you with the full amount of protein and leucine you need in the Cinch Inch Loss Plan. Today, soy milk and milk are available in small cartons, so you can take them with you and fix your shake at work or when you travel. If necessary, you may mix the Cinch Shake with water, using one-and-a-half servings of powder in 8 ounces of water. This provides about the same amount of protein and calories as when prepared with nonfat milk or low-fat soy milk.

Q. Do you have any shake recipes?
A. You will find ideas on how to flavor the shakes without adding too many additional calories posted on CinchClub.com. An easy way to flavor your shakes is to use natural flavor extracts that can be found in the baking section of the grocery store.

Q. Can I use the two shakes for any two meals during the day?
A. Yes, you may use the shakes for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and plan a sensible meal using the Meal Plan or Servings and Portion Guidelines for your third meal.

Q. What is leucine?
A. Leucine is an essential amino acid that travels directly to muscle to signal protein synthesis. It helps your body preserve muscle mass while you lose weight from fat.*
*Based on the results of a preliminary clinical study and skin fold caliper measurements to estimate lean body mass and fat mass.

Questions About Energy Tea Mix

Q. Do I have to drink the Energy Tea?
A. It’s not uncommon to experience occasional dips in your energy level when you’re losing weight. The tea is a great, healthy, and energizing alternative to sugary snacks, soda, or coffee that may tempt you later in your day. Enjoy the tea hot or cold—it will help naturally boost your energy levels and it won’t add too many calories. Each serving of tea has only five calories, while a mocha latte may have hundreds.

Q. How many servings per day of tea may I have?
A. You may consume as many servings of tea per day as you like. Keep in mind, however, that the tea contains 70 mg of caffeine from tea ingredients. If you are sensitive to caffeine, you may want to limit your tea intake and avoid the use of the tea late in the afternoon or early evening.

Question About the Pedometer

Q. My pedometer does not work or register the expected number of steps. Is it broken?
A. Your pedometer will work only if it is placed on your waistband properly. Please refer to instructions and warranty information.

Finding the Best Diet for Weight Loss

How to find the Best Weight Loss Diet Program

In working to determine the best weight loss diet program, you can quickly see that the essentials to diets are just a few.

Any and all weight can be controlled by just 2 things - calories input and calories burned. The old saw is that you "eat less, exercise more, or both". Consume fewer calories as you eat and burn more than you used to.

And that's fine to state, but harder to keep going as a program. Because there are 3 factors which control your success on any diet: physical, mental, and social.

Physical - your body is used to certain quantities and bulk. Some people are used to simply filling their stomach area when they eat. While this was fine for teen-agers, once we hit middle age or later, our metabolism slows down and so we start storing more in fat - which is where all excess food is stored. As well, fast food restaurants know that people get addicted to fat, salt, and sugar. And a physical addiction is where the body simply adjusts to living off a certain regular amount of these substances, and won't "feel good" if these aren't present. The problem is that fast food is mostly "empty" calories - meaning that you don't get a lot of useful vitamins, minerals, or other nutrients. You can feel "full" but still not have the nutrition your body needs, so you have to eat some more - more than you should need. When you cut down the amount or type of foods you eat, then there is some pushback from the body to get some more.

Mental - as teenagers can eat anything they want, and our middle-class lifestyle (as well as the growing numbers of convenient fast food outlets) allow us to eat anywhere and any type of food we might want. Most people don't cook their own food from scratch - so we aren't used to selecting and judging amounts. We also aren't usually taught how many calories are in whatever portions we are being served. And additions also have their mental counter-part - it's giving control of that part of your life to someone or something else. Most mental "noise" is composed of habits, ways to figure out how to survive better. And habits can be changed in about 30 days of practice.

Social - these various addictions and habits are reinforced by what groups and people you have around you. You will usually pick your friends to support your own world view and beliefs. And overweight people are usually surrounded by - yes, overweight people. So this makes it harder to change, when the world around you is resisting change. So the best programs have support groups that are sponsored at either a corporate or grass-roots level, or by a combination of both. The point is to get people around you who think and act like you do, so you can change your old habits and not go back.

A successful diet system will take all five of these elements into account:

  • You'll get enough calories to sustain your health. You'll also have enough energy to do whatever you want.

  • You'll be exercising more, but in a fashion that you can get this into your lifestyle simply.

  • The food you get will be enough to keep you going, and not hungry during the day.

  • There will be an education program which will teach you what your portion sizes are and which foods will just be stored as fat instead of being consumed.

  • There will be a support group so you can stay on your program instead of distracted or negated from doing it.

If you take these 5 points, you'll be able to find the best weight loss diet program.

In a later article, I intend to compare the various weight loss diet programs to help you select the best one for your situation. Of course, I already have a good idea, but I frequently surprise myself as I do the research.
